Adding on from 5

I am learning to keep 5 in my head and add on.  This game is called Murtle Turtle and it reminds me to count on from a number.

Reading Eggs

I am learning to make the first and last sounds so I can work out the word for myself.  Reading Eggs helps to reinforce my learning.

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"I really love to write things. I can do somethings with my pencil. I can write words on my whiteboard." Nithilan

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

I am learning to make the beginning sounds

I am learning to make the beginning sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

"I can read all by myself.  I can read my frog book" said Nithilan

I am learning to make patterns to 5

Nithilan, you are able to recognise patterns to 5 using concrete materials.  We are now going to work on instantly recalling these patterns to 5.

"I can make the pattern to 5 and now we are learning to count to 100 on our whiteboards."said Nithilan

Elm park 50th Birthday Party.

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Nithilan said, "I liked all of the party"

I am learning to form the numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 12 correctly.

Nithilan said," I am doing numbers. I like the shops at Maths time."

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

I am learning to get my mouth ready for the first sound. I can make the sound now that I know my alphabet sounds.

Nithilan said, " I am reading the book and I am just pointing to the word."

I am learning Soccer skills

I am learning different ball skills with our Soccer coach. 

I am learning to listen, follow instructions carefully and work together with the whole class.
